Seabob Underwater Scooter in Mauritius

A Seabob is a small electric jet that you hold in front of you with both hands. Press the trigger and it pulls you through the water, on the surface or just below it. In the shallow, clear lagoons of Mauritius, it lets you cover a whole reef in the time it would take to snorkel a small part of it, and you never get out of breath. It takes about two minutes to learn.

Full description

Meet your instructor at the water-sports base. After a short briefing on land, you get into the shallow lagoon with a mask and your Seabob.

The controls are simple. Squeeze the trigger to move forward. Tilt the Seabob down to go under the surface and tilt it up to come back. You start on the lowest power setting, and when the instructor is happy that you are in control, you can go faster.

The instructor then takes you out over the coral. With the Seabob doing the work, you spend the whole session looking at the reef rather than kicking, and you can hold still beside a coral head to watch the fish.

Stay dry and see the same reef from a glass bottom boat at Blue Bay, or walk on the sea floor with the underwater sea walk.

Meeting point and times

Important information

• You must be a confident swimmer. You don’t wear a buoyancy aid, because the Seabob controls your depth.
• Riders under 16 can go tandem with the instructor. There is also a weight limit, which we confirm when you book.
• Stay well clear of the coral. The Seabob is more powerful than it feels.
• Don’t chase fish or turtles.
• Not recommended for pregnant women or people with heart, ear or back problems.
• The session depends on the weather and sea. If it can’t run, you can rebook or get a full refund.
