The west coast faces the sunset, and the sea is calmest here in the late afternoon. On this private sunset cruise, the catamaran is yours for two hours. You sail out of Black River into Tamarin Bay, swim at a snorkel spot off La Preneuse while the light is still good, then watch the sun go down over the Indian Ocean with a drink in hand. It suits birthdays, family groups, and small celebrations of up to 14 people.
Meet the crew at Black River half an hour before departure. The catamaran leaves in the late afternoon and sails north along the coast into Tamarin Bay, with the Tamarin mountains behind you.
The first stop is a sheltered reef off La Preneuse, known locally as the natural aquarium because of the number of fish in shallow water. You have time for a swim and a snorkel while the sun is still high enough to light the reef.
Then the crew turns the boat towards the west, serves drinks and snacks if you have added them, and you watch the sun drop into the sea. You are back at Black River just after dark.
The same stretch of coast works earlier in the day on the full-day charter to Île aux Bénitiers, and if you want an evening in the north instead there is the shared sunset cruise from Grand Baie.
Times move with the seasons. Sunset is around 17:45 in June and around 18:50 in January, so we confirm the exact time when you book.
Snacks and drinks package, €25 per person: bruschetta, olives, crisps and peanuts, served with beer, wine, local rum, soft drinks, juice, tea and coffee.
Champagne is available on request at an extra cost.

We can collect you from your hotel before the cruise and drive you back afterwards. Our drivers are local, speak English and French, and have cars for 4, 6 or 12 people. The price depends on the distance to Black River.
Black River is the driest side of Mauritius because the central mountains block the trade winds and rain clouds. That is why the west coast gets clearer sunsets than anywhere else on the island, especially from May to November.
