The Submarine Journey Experience
The adventure begins at the welcoming desk in Trou aux Biches, where a comprehensive safety briefing sets the stage for your dive. From here, you board the ‘Vaporetto 2’ shuttle boat for a scenic 15-minute transfer to the submarine platform, “Le Ti Betty,” anchored offshore.
Once aboard the BS 1100 Submarine, you will be guided to your personal observation window. The pilot will ensure everyone is comfortable before initiating the immersion. As the submarine descends, you can watch the fascinating mechanics of the pneumatic valves and ballast systems in action through the cabin’s live immersion display.
Underwater Wonders at 35 Meters
Reaching a depth of 35 meters, the submarine navigates the pristine sandy seabed with exceptional visibility that often exceeds 30 meters. The cabin maintains a constant atmospheric pressure, ensuring a smooth and pressure-free experience for all passengers.
During your 40-minute underwater cruise, the pilot will guide you past several breathtaking sights. The centerpiece of the tour is the Star Hope wreck, a 50-meter-long Japanese trawler intentionally sunk in 1996. Over the years, it has transformed into a thriving artificial reef, attracting a magnificent concentration of Javanese moray eels and sea turtles.
Nearby, you will also spot a fascinating 17th-century sheet anchor, offering a glimpse into Mauritius’s rich seafaring history. The surrounding waters are teeming with life; expect to see a kaleidoscope of colorful fish, including surgeonfish, capitaine, kingfish, and parrotfish. Depending on the weather, you might even spot larger predatory species like barracudas darting through the overcast light.
Safety and Comfort
Safety is the paramount priority of this excursion. The BS 1100 Submarine is certified annually by international authorities and equipped with multiple redundant emergency systems. It is designed to resurface using eight different methods, ensuring a secure environment at all times.
The submarine ride in mauritius is completely dry and air-conditioned, meaning you can wear your regular, comfortable clothing. However, guests must be able to navigate a 1.5-meter ladder to board the vessel. The experience is not recommended for individuals with severe claustrophobia or serious heart conditions.
Concluding the Dive
After exploring the underwater marvels, the submarine ascends and returns to the “Le Ti Betty” platform. A final 15-minute shuttle boat ride brings you back to the shore. To commemorate your remarkable journey, you will be presented with an official certificate proving your 35-meter dive, alongside a refreshing drink at the welcome desk.
